The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They are a member of the National Hockey League (NHL) and compete in the league’s Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The team was founded in 1972 as the Atlanta Flames and relocated to Calgary in 1980.
The Flames play their home games at the Scotiabank Saddledome, often referred to as the “Dome,” located in downtown Calgary. The arena has a distinct saddle-shaped roof that makes it one of the city’s recognizable landmarks.
The Flames have had periods of success in their history. One of their most significant accomplishments came in the 1988-1989 NHL season when they won the Stanley Cup. Led by legendary players like Lanny McDonald, Doug Gilmour, and Joe Nieuwendyk, the Flames defeated the Montreal Canadiens in the finals to capture their first and only Stanley Cup championship to date.
Over the years, the Flames have been home to numerous talented players, including Jarome Iginla, Al MacInnis, Miikka Kiprusoff, and more recently, Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk.
While the team has experienced varying levels of success, they have remained a competitive force in the NHL and have a passionate fan base in Calgary and across Canada.
