The California Angels were a professional baseball team based in Anaheim, California. They were a member of Major League Baseball (MLB) and played in the American League (AL) West division. The team was established in 1961 as an expansion franchise and played their home games at Angel Stadium, which was originally known as Anaheim Stadium.
In 1965, the team changed its name to the California Angels, reflecting its broader appeal and regional representation. The Angels underwent further name changes over the years. In 1997, they became known as the Anaheim Angels, and in 2005, the name changed again to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, reflecting a marketing decision to better associate the team with the larger Los Angeles market.
The Angels had periods of success in their history, and one of their most significant accomplishments came during the 2002 MLB season when they won the World Series. Under the leadership of manager Mike Scioscia, the Angels defeated the San Francisco Giants in a thrilling seven-game series to capture their first and only World Series championship to date.
Throughout their history, the Angels have been home to many talented players, including Hall of Famers such as Nolan Ryan and Rod Carew, as well as modern-day stars like Mike Trout and Albert Pujols.
