The Charlotte Hornets are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and compete in the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team was established in 1988 as an expansion franchise.
The Hornets play their home games at the Spectrum Center, located in Uptown Charlotte. The team’s colors are teal, purple, and white, and they have a dedicated and enthusiastic fan base.
The original Charlotte Hornets played in Charlotte from 1988 to 2002 before relocating to New Orleans and becoming the New Orleans Hornets (now the New Orleans Pelicans). In 2004, the NBA awarded Charlotte a new expansion franchise, and the team resumed playing as the Charlotte Bobcats. In 2014, the team reclaimed the “Hornets” name after the New Orleans franchise decided to change its name to the Pelicans.
The Hornets have had varying degrees of success since their inception. During their early years, they were known for their teal-colored uniforms and the popularization of NBA superstar Larry Johnson, who was a prominent player for the team during the 1990s.
Over the years, the Hornets have seen a roster of talented players, including Alonzo Mourning, Glen Rice, and more recently, Kemba Walker. Despite some ups and downs, the team has continued to be a competitive force in the NBA.
